Taken with a Canon 50mm F1.4 USM prime lens.
Tonight was my first venture with night photography using the 50mm prime lens. Read from the photography forums that this lens could be used for landscape photography (and not just portrait shots). I thought I'd give it a try, but i went one step further and tried doing night photography.
Fortunately the San Francisco weather was beautiful tonight and there was the not-so-full moon as an added bonus. I've always meant to experiment with taking a moon within a landscape shot - without having the moon "painted-in" so to speak. I attempted more than twenty tries to take the moon and the Ferry buikding into one frame , and this was the best out of those attempts that I tried. Obviously I still got lots of room to learn.
Aside from exposure/ contrast settings, its straight out of the camera, no other adjustments were done.. It's pretty much all about the correct shutter speed, aperture, and ISO setting. To be able to capture the whole frame, I went with F/4.0 and a very quick shutter speed of 1/125. I trained the focus on the Ferry building clock so the moon, which is bright enough, won't be too washed out. BTW I used ISO setting 400 as it was a pretty well-lighted scene.
I'd say that this lens is really worth the $$$ I paid for!
