View north across the Swan River from South Perth. The reflection of the setting sun is visible in the windows of many of the buildings. The purple building right of center is the LED-lit City Hall which changes colors like a Vegas casino. My desk is on the 30th floor of the tall building near the left edge. In front of that is the low-slung and controversial Convention Center which is referred to as a "hay shed"; backward Perth architects designed it largely without views of the river. The tall building under construction is the new BHP-Billiton world HQ. The "mining boom" expected to continue in Perth the next 20-30 years will transform it into an Australian Dubai along the way.
